25 Ways to be KIND to yourself.

25 Ways to be KIND to yourself.

Eat well! Treat yourself with nutrition, not junk. Nutrition can taste great, and you deserve to nourish your body with delicious, healthful food.  Cut yourself some slack! You don’t have to be all things to all people. Go to the mirror and tell yourself you are doing OK. Now do it again, and mean it.  Recognize all the hard work you have done. All the late nights with children or studies or both, making dinner like a zombie because you where running on empty. Good on you for doing that! Real strength is doing what needs to be done. Get…

Do you fall somewhere in the middle? Lucky you! 1. Go see Disney’s…

Bring back the Dinner Party! But first, a giveaway.

Bring back the Dinner Party! But first, a giveaway.

This post is bought to you in collaboration with Corelle. I might be showing my age here, but back in the early ’90s Mr BC (then fiance C) and I would host many dinner parties. We would crank up the Sade, and treat our guests to a pre-dinner cocktail followed by several courses of rich, overly prepared, adventurous courses all matched carefully with wines because we were utter wine snobs. To finish, there would always be chocolates and port, accompanied by an argumentative game of Pictionary into the wee hours of the morning. Ahhhh, good times! I tell you this because…

GASP!

GASP!

Ben Elton (Blackadder, The Young Ones) has written a play so full of biting satire and witty sarcasm you will alternate between laughing so hard your cheeks hurt, and literally gasping in shock at the words coming from the stage. GASP! was first staged in 1990 starring Hugh Laurie, but has obviously been heavily researched and rewritten to be relevant to Australian audiences.  VIA Remember when that crazed loony, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, head honcho of Nestle, wanted to privatize water? I know, what a psycho! GASP! takes this premise one step further by exploring in hilarious fashion what would happen if big…

Movie Review: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Movie Review: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Have you ever felt like everything that could go wrong, does go wrong? I’ve been feeling a lot like this lately, so when the Chaos Family was invited along to the movie preview of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day I packed my bag with tissues in case some of it hit a bit close to home. Then I also took a pile of napkins from the concession stand, just in case. Don’t be alarmed, the movie is excellent; really really good. Most of my tears were tears of laughter, promise. via Alexander and the Terrible,…

Halloween in a Hurry

Halloween in a Hurry

I love Halloween, and I am thrilled that it is gaining popularity in Australia. Not just he ancient Pagan festival of Samhain, but the modern commercial festival of Halloween. Read last years rant about it here, if you like; the short version is that I love a festival that brings families and communities together in a bit of fun. (Not to be confused with Samhain, which is more about bringing families and communities together in a bit of fun while we give thanks for the harvest and also have a chance to chat with the rellos that have passed on.…

The Myer Giftorium Experience: Your Christmas shopping just got a lot easier.

The Myer Giftorium Experience: Your Christmas shopping just got a lot easier.

A few weeks ago I was invited to the Brisbane launch of Myers new in-store concept, Giftorium. Like most things Myer do, it was done beautifully; they have really put a lot of thought and effort into this concept! It was such a lovely morning, and really bought out my inner Christmas junkie (that is totally a thing, right?) I wanted to share it with you and tell you why Giftorium is going to be a game changer this Christmas. Giftorium is a store within all 67 Myer stores, each one containing all things Christmas to give you the most…

Are you listening, Universe?

Are you listening, Universe?

I’ve been feeling a bit homicidal in the traffic today, well maybe not quite homicidal, lets just say stabby. Stop driving 20 kms under the speed limit, it makes me want to stab you! Use your INDICATORS!! I don’t like feeling like this, it makes me feel mean and it’s not good for my blood pressure. I thought I should quickly (when people get out of the way) come home and write out what is playing on my mind, because feeling stabby is a sure sign of that. Why, oh why can’t cyclists use their bells on a shared walkway?…

Sometimes Lunch isn’t about the Lunchbox #snackosphere

Sometimes Lunch isn’t about the Lunchbox #snackosphere

This post is not sponsored, it is my submission in the Kidspot Voices of 2014 Healtheries #snackosphere project, as part of the #Kidspot #VoicesOf2014 competition, of which I am one of the top 30 Personal and Parenting Bloggers. I know, how lucky am I! The prompt I’ve chosen is ‘lunchbox’. You know that as usual, all words and enthusiasm are my own. I have 2 lunchboxes to pack every day, for two boys with very different tastes. One is allergic to eggs. One loves cake, the other hates it, but does like some cheese and crackers once in a while.…

Date Night: Sydney

Date Night: Sydney

A few weekends ago, my god daughter/cousin married her best friend/love of her life in the thriving and beautiful township of Wollongong, about 1 hour or so south of Sydney. I like the ‘Gong, it is in a beautiful coastal area and always seems to be full of people either on their way to a party, or heading home from a party. It is not big enough to have it’s own airport, so we would have to fly into Sydney, hire a car and drive down. We decided to fly down a day early, and have a night in Sydney.…
