Saying goodbye to an unfinished project.

Saying goodbye to an unfinished project.

I am the type of person who likes to be thorough. I like to complete tasks. I like to put a tick in that box and feel a nice sense of satisfaction. Not completing a task feels like……like failure? Like I’ve let myself and everyone else down? It feels like being a Quitter, and I like to think I am No Quitter. I have a lot of projects on the go, and a lot of ideas spilling out of my head. I’ve learnt to accept that sometimes my ideas will stay in a notebook and never see the light of…

5 Basic Photography Tips from a non photographer.

5 Basic Photography Tips from a non photographer.

Photography seems to be my family’s sport. My father and grandfather before him manufactured  photographic lighting, and were keen photographers. My cousin is a proffesional photographer, and I have many aunts, uncles and cousins who are just a bit better than your average amateur photographer. I do not have that gene, sadly. (I am also the only one in the entire extended family that doesn’t ski, but that is a story for another time) So, my camera of choice is an iPhone. If I had a different camera I might be inclined to know how to use it properly, but…

5 great tips for managing your time.

5 great tips for managing your time.

Like lots of people, I have a lot of things to do and not a lot of time to do them in. I find it easy to be swept up in enormous plans to take over the world, but then don’t have the actual time to do that. Bummer! Reminding myself of these tips alleviates a bit of the crushing dissapointment of realising I’m not superwoman, and gives me some direction on moving forward, so I thought I’d share them with you. Hope you like them! First lets take a few cleansing breathes and look at the nice blue ocean.…

Playing around with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

Playing around with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

Has it only been a month since Problogger? There was so much to take in and to be honest I am still processing a lot of it. On the very first night at ProBlogger I was lucky to attend the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint event. You must have heard of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, it is a bit of a cult product, and it’s all over the internet – Google it, you’ll see. The event was fantastic for a few reasons; we learned the story behind the product, we got to have a play with it, there were cocktails and…

How to not get swooped by Magpies.

How to not get swooped by Magpies.

via We are in the thick of Magpie Season here in south east Queensland, and I am not enjoying it very much at all. Several magpies have taken up residence in my street, one almost immediately outside my front gate, and people (including me) are getting swooped daily. It’s become a bit of a sport for my children to watch this from the front window. “Lady with an umbrella Mum! That guy with his hoodie right over his head!’ Sadly, no one is immune from getting swooped.  Male Magpies swoop at certain times of the year because they are hepped…

Thoughts on Kitchen Design

Thoughts on Kitchen Design

It’s no secret I am lusting after a new kitchen. The kitchen we have is horrible – dysfunctional AND super ugly. It is a tiny galley style kitchen, with exactly 90cm between each bench. If there is more than one person in there, it becomes claustrophobic. The storage is not very well thought out and there is not enough room for our stuff, so it ends up piled on top of cupboards and takes up valuable space on the benches. We don’t have a stuff problem, we have a storage problem! I wasn’t joking when I said the kitchen is…

Kitchen Table Makeover

Kitchen Table Makeover

The part of the furniture makeover that takes the longest, I find, is discussing your plans with your makeover partner in crime; in this case, Mr BC. We have endless, endless discussions over what finish to use, whether we are changing the structure or even the use of the item, if we need other parts and where we should get them, and so on. I always turn to Pinterest and Mr BC consults his own oracle, eBay. This kitchen table project was no different, and in fact the discussion was more involved, because this table belonged to Mr BC’s Nanna…

On Trends and Inspiration

On Trends and Inspiration

Apparently arrows are the next big thing, after pineapples have finished having their day in the sun. Nothing personal, pineapple lovers! What do you think? Are you ready to give up the pineapple and embrace the hipster arrow? I think I am, and god knows I am over yellow and grey chevron. via – via – viavia – via – viavia – via – via(careful, that first link plays music. Sorry) I am not over turquoise, however. To be fair, this has coloured my aura for as long as I can remember. I skipped the memo on emerald green and radiant…

Earring holder, take 2

Earring holder, take 2

Ages ago (like years) I made this earring holder out of cardboard, duct tape, an old frame and a hand me down skirt of my sisters. It was very satisfying! You can read about it here if you like. I liked this earring holder a lot, I love the way all of my dangly earrings are on display, and I love the way it looks. But, the effort it took to force an ear ring through the material and the wadding underneath would sometimes bend an ear ring out of shape. Bummer! Then recently during a clean up I found some mesh…

Chest of Drawers Makeover. It’s LOVE.

Chest of Drawers Makeover. It’s LOVE.

Do you remember this old chest of drawers? You can read the story of where I got them here. Spoiler: I bought them for $2 because I wanted to see what was in the drawers. Super Spoiler: Not much. BUT! We did get this awesome chest of drawers! And do you also remember my woefully inadequate DVD storage situation? I had a rant about it here.  The “DVD Storage” (let’s just put that in parentheses) occupied the spot underneath the TV, with a large, dark bookcase on either side. I love my bookcases and I cannot declutter any more books,…
